Filtration for 598 gallon

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
We just finished setting uf a new 600g sytem in my friends lfs. We used a single large rubermaid sump and turned a plastic garbage can into a monster bio chamber. While having multiple filters is nice its realy not neccasery. When you step up to the large volume pumps they are really designed to run for a very long time. Your much more likely to lose your filter due to a poweroutage. The key thing to remember is to run a drain line from the sump into your regular house drain (I would also recomend a check valve to prevent backflow.) The return line is split to run through a quad stack Rainbow UV (A Must for lage tanks). His system being salt also has a monster protien skimmer running out of the sump and a full ro steup for bi weekly 100g water changes. Try www.aquaticeco.com/ for commercial size parts and supplies.

it depends on you if you want it to look good them go for commercial wet/dry if you want to save $$$ and still perform great you can DIY wet/dry. I'm not a great DIY person so I would need to buy wet/dry... here are some pics of an auction at ebay for a 500 gal tank... he used 2 wet/dry w/ protein skimmers and one pump... hope this helps you decide.. :D he liked it bare on the bottom... maybe kinda like a show tank and nice plumbing it was at California.
