What does everyone recommend?

Either a Marineland C-530 canister, Rena XP4 canister or a diy wet/dry made from a 30 gallon tank with bioballs, etc and an overflow box?

Can anyone give any input on the overflow boxes? Did you ever hear of any problems?

Thanks!

Personally I like to use an Fx5, your water will never be cleaner

i got a sump on my 75. i have a 20gal rubermaid bin with a quietone 4000 pump which is 1,000 gph at 0 head and about 750 gph at 4 feet head. i have a pvc over flow in 1.5 in diameter. keeps up with the pump almost perfect.

i have about 100$ in the whole set up and it filters GREAT. you can play around with media in the sump and well there is lots of room for different kinds of media in there. i cant complain.

I personally use 2 Cascade 1000's Canister on my 75. I would go with a sump but, my tank isn't drilled. That and the mechanics to a sump are over my head. Might need thou.

here is the over flow i made. fairly simple. once the water level gets below that top cross section on the left the flow stops, then once it rises it starts back automatically. the air line is to pull the air out once you get it set up, once you pull the air out, and close off the line, its flowing.

i did have problems with over flowing the sump a few times, but once you get it figured out its pretty easy.

What if the power goes out after you take the air hose out? Can it overflow the tank?

Any of the options you listed would work fine. Two AC110s is another good option, and would cost less.

once the water level in the tank gets below that crossing on the left side, the water flow stops. you wanna get that crossing as high as possible. its gonna flow some but if its near the water line it will not flow that much, if your sump can handle a little bit of extra water your good.

i can go and pull the power right now and it wont ever flow. the sump will fill just about full but it wont over flow.
