Filtration for a 150

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I have used the basic concept before... and will be using this on a 20 gal w/ 29 gal sump in less than a month...

But no I do not have it currently set up...

It wouldn't matter if the hole in the PVC is above or below the waters surface... But for reference I plan to use it below the water's surface...

I fully understand it feels risky to take a suggestion from someone that does not have it currently in use successfully...

I'll be sure to share my set up once it is up and functioning...

yah. Please do. So if the hole was above the water level wouldn't the syphon die?

Yes the "siphon" would die... but as long as the water level is higher than the bottom of the T fitting (yet lower than the hole) it will still overflow down into the sump...

My gloal will be to have a pump that is strong enough to keep the water level above the hole in the PVC...

Hey Hawaiianfishkee, I just ran into the same issue as you with my new 150g. Because of the height of the tank I would need to invest some cash to get the sump setup correctly in order for it to have the turnover rate needed.

In the end I ditched the sump and went with two Rena XP3's. I found them used from a member of my local fish club for $75 each.

Dang you scored! I watched this video on you tube and this dude was using both an xp3 and an xp4 for his 220 gal. I wish I found someone with that deal.

Or better yet I'm at walmart rite now and they have sheets of felt for $.42 could I use that? It's polyester made from recycled post consumer plastic bottles?

Felt will clog pretty quick but makes a great 'polishing' media
