Going to have 50+ Exodon Paradoxus in there. I have 2 Emporer 280's, 2 Auaclear 70's and 2 Aquaclear 110's already. So far I like Aquaclear's the best but the people at the pet shop all think the bio wheels are way better. I might get 2 Penguin 350's if eveyone thinks the bio wheel filters are better. If you have any other suggestions let me know. Ex: wet/dry or canister. I would prefer to use hang on back filters.

aquaclears the way to go . its the only brand i use . the bio capacity is way more then a bio wheel . i have 2 70s on a 55 gallon and 2 110s on a 75 gallon . no amonia or nitrite in over a year using the same media

So I should probably set up the 2 70's then? The two 110's would be too much for those little fish right? I had little fish stuck to the 70's in a 30 gallon tank including a Jardini Arrowana (3") but this tank is taller and slightly deeper.

Howdy,

How about an Eheim 2217? Less clutter in, on, and around the tank, and massive biofiltration and flow. They come with full media sets, ready to go.

just get a fx-5 and be done with it! ebay under 200 bucks. might have a current but your tank will be clean!

use the emperors----they have more bio area's than the ac's. You can load the grey media containers with more bio media than a comparible sized ac can hold and then you have the wet and dry action of the bio wheel to top it off. I have and use both and i would never buy another AC filter.

I have emperor 280's over 10 years of age still going strong.

the Bio-wheels are a kind of wet/dry setup.

I can really load up my emperor's with media in comparison to the AC's, and in my experience the emperor's are much better made than the aqua clears(come on it's all advertising gimmicks for those hagen guys! or atleast thats how my LFS guy describes it)

Eric 99 asked for filtration for a 46 gal tank, not how to turn it into a whirl pool.

You might as well just use the AC110s. I see no reason to get another filter, those will be adequate. If the flow is too much, put a prefilter over the intake. I've got one on a 75, it seems like a good filter although it isn't as quiet as I had hoped.

If you decide to get a canister though, fluval 404s are nice. Its basically the exact same as a 405, but only $85 on ebay. More flow and capacity than a 2217.
