I have a simple pond filter I bought from Lowes for $69.00 I next added a water line 1/4 and an in line filter from lowes $11.00 and hooked it up to a drip addmitter from the garden sestion about $2.00 I the drilled a hole at the water line I wanted 3/8 ran it though the wall and I have never changed water again. It's been almost a year now my silver arrowna is about 15 inches long I have a large Oscar, large parrott fish 4 largeicliades, 2 clown loachs and I only clean the canaster filter once a month

2229 is great for to be self contained wet/dry.... but as far as mechanical filtration, they suck... i own one which is up and running... its full of eheim pro ONLY.

you need more tank which will need more filter.

I have a 300 gallon plywood tank with 15 inch silver arrowana it started out about 7 inches 7 months ago the tank mates are one large Oscar, Placto parrott, 2 clown loaches a couple of algee eater and 7 or 8 cicilids the tank has an air bar and a pond filter I got at lowes, that I only clean once a month. I did install a auto water changer 1/4 water line coming in attached to an in line fridge filter which is attached to a drip admitter. water stays crystal clear and I do almost do work on thank only feed once or twice a day and clean filter once a month mostly.
