That is definitely true...There is no such thing as too much filtration. I run about 1300gph on my 90. An AC110's a large sponge filter connected to a power head and uv sterilizer.;)

I got these two and an ac110 and a top fin 60 300 GPH HOB (Bags stuffed with matrix carbon for polishing) on my 90 gallon (Essentially a taller 75) Setup works great

Id reccomend a UV as well Theres a 24 watter on my setup now its good to keep diseases and anything in check when you keep high volumes of fish.

I like my marineland emperor 400. At least it won't crack like an aquaclear =/.

Anyway, on my 75 I have a marineland emperor 400 and a penn plax cascade 1000. It's still fishless cycling.

The "guideline" (remember that guidelines would have you keeping a 72" shark in a 72 gallon tank which is 48" long), is filter the water 10 times an hour, meaning about 600-700 gph for a 75 gallon. You can get away with less, but more is always better until you get to the point where your fish can't handle the current (that takes quite a bit more than 700 gph.)

FX5 will actually get you the most flow for your dollar, if you buy it as cheaply as you can find it. It's a little more than you need, but there's nothing wrong with that. It gives you upgrade paths and a great filter. If I had the extra $70 I would've purchased one, but I think my emperor and cascade will do just fine.

Please elaborate about the aqua clears cracking, I have only heard of this when dorks twist up filters full of water.

The tank is 75 gallons ...I've heard that Mbuna's like being a little crowded...filtration has to be excellent...50gallon Aquaclear HOB filters
Not so much they like being crowded, as much as, the bigger the bunch, the less likely only one will get picked on.
My suggestion would be to try your aqua-clears, as you add your fish(after your tank has cycled).
Keep an eye on your ammonia, nitrate levels.
If you are looking to overstock a 75, I think you will run out of room to hang filters. Even with 4 30/60`s, you would end up doing 2-3 water changes a week to keep up. Just not enough bio media capacity.
Would be nice if we all could just order an fx5..maybe that was what that stimulus check was for.

wow that seems kinda crazy... like $300 and my tank is only 75 gallons... it says it works for up to 400gallon tanks

wow u seems kinda crazy...
lol jk :D

i really wonder if there's someone out there with a 400 gal tank with only a single FX 5 on it... lol

hardcore...

try an Eheim, their pretty damn good.

i have both Eheim 2028 pro 2 and FX 5 on my 120 gal, ill post the picture for the millionth time.

u can never have enough bio filtration. Eheims are great for that.

i keep africans, and i have an FX5 and Fluval 405 on a 90 gallon, and a sump and FX5 on my 180 gallon. i have used the AC 110's in the past-and they are good filters. i think two would work-but you must keep up on the waterchanges (i do a 50 percent wc every other weekend).

i bought my fx5's off of an ebay seller and paid 180.00 a piece for them-i thought it was a good deal.

are there any other options besides canister filters? i guess they have to be below the tank...? i don't have a stand (going to use a some cinder blocks and wood) to get it a little off the floor.

couple of ac 110s, there's also sponge filters.
