Filtration. HELP!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Since I don't have pics now, I will describe the set up as best I can.

180 gallon tank.

1 inch of sand as a substrate with a grate underneath to prevent too much digging.

About 300 lbs of lava rock in the middle of the tank.

2 350s, one on each side.

16 various cichlids (Red Devil, 2 Jags, 1 female Dovii, 2 JDs, 1 Green Terror, 1 Oscar and some parrots and 2 africans and a pleco. Oddly enough, they live in harmony. No violence issues.

Jags, Dovii are not full grown.

Would the Fluval X5 be all I needed to replace the 2 350s???

Or, would I need other things as well?

it would replace your 350 b's

id say sump or canister basically same concept in both

No. sump provides aeration while canister doesn't. If you are going to get rid of 350 then I would go with a sump and a fx5. If you just have fx5 you will need something else to areate the water such as air pump or power head.
