Filtration - Microns

Do you have sump? Why not just buy some micron filter pads or socks for you sump? They do a great job and are reusable. I have a 50 micro filter pad in my sump. My water is clear of particles. Only down side is you have to clean is every week or two as they can clog. No biggie though.

Not to my knowledge. I have run one for over a year without any visible issues.

The cleaning of a sand filter is SIMPLE, which is what I am aiming for as I am going to have over 3000G.

Besides the simple factor, a sand filter cleans to 20-40 microns = great clean water for my pets.

Obviously, bio filtration is lacking. The idea at the moment is that this will be solved by adding a trickle filter above the tank, that the return will feed into, and then out of the trickle filter - via gravity - into the tank.

The tank will rest 16" off the ground - thus I don't have a terrible amount of room under there.
