i have a 100 long and i have a VERY low amount of money, and i need good filtration because it is going to be heavily stoocked. right now i have a sump at 550gph, thats only 5.5 turnover rate.

since it is 6 ft long, i will need more water current. so i have under gravel jets on one end, and a air stone in the middle. i still want more filtration though.

i was thinking about getting 2 "petco brand filters" rated for 20 gall tanks, or i would get 2 :petco brand filters" rated for 30 gallons! (depending on how much they cost) has anyone evr used these filters? would they work? is this good enough filtration for a 100 long?

cheapest filtration youll get is 2 powerheads and an undergravel filter to be honest... big bio area, and good water circulation on the cheap.... other than that I wouldnt bother with small internals, they are pretty much useless in a tank that size

I agree that a undergravel filter with powerheads is very good, but not that cheap. Hang on back filters are cheaper.

do at least weekly 50% water changes which would reduce a lot of the load on your filter system

yeah i will do alot of water changes. it will be easy because the door the th bathroom is like 3 feet away from the tank, ill just siphon the water to the shower. yeah im going to get 2 HOB filters to go with my sump

water changes can make up for poor filtration, but even good filters can't make up for weekly water changes...stay with what you have, add a powerhead for more circulation and make water changes weekly.

I would go with an AC50/AC70 & a powerhead. Skip the cheapo brand HOBs. Filters are pricey & they're tough to mod.
