Filtration on New 300

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Sorry man Wednesday will be a no go for me. I have to go up to henderson mine for some safety training.

I am just going to take it off the truck and put it in the garage so I can paint the bottom and back. I'll have help to move it in the house later on or I'll just wait until Thursday. I'll have help then, though too. I'll give you a call tomorrow, though.

FYI, tank is getting here Thursday afternoon. I am going to start building the stand tomorrow and hope to have it ready before the paint dries and I move the tank into the basement. I was going to just use cinder blocks, but I figured I would need 48 so I decided to get some 4x4's and 2x4' and build a stand instead. More work to build the stand, but carrying 4 dozen blocks all around didn't seem very appealing. Plus, the wood didn't cost any more than the block. I'm not going to finish it (make it look nice or put doors on), but it will be finished later once I move it to its permanent location. I got the stuff to make bulkhead fittings and the standpipe. Once I get it on the stand, I'll figure out the plumbing, which should be straight-forward.

Anyone know of a better way to do the filtration for now with what I have available?

can't wait to start working on this after work :D

i went home earlier and grabbed the FX5 off the front porch...the rest of my stuff should be here when I get home from work.

I will be freeing up another Penguin 350 from another tank, so I'll have 3.

why dont you make a wet dry out of the 75 gal? dont you have acrylic pieces and get some cheap bio media lava rocks or scrubbies at the dollar store? then sell the 3 350 filters and get a reliable enexpensive submersable pump 600 -1200 gph
then you can have more than enough biological filteration with the 75gal
and the fx5 and fx3 would be awesome on the chemical filtration.
your bass would be straight!!! prob keep em in there for life with weekly waterchanges

I just want to getting running for now. Everything will be easy to change later. I am probably going to save the 75 and look for something else (bigger prob) on CL to make a sump out of and use 2 pumps w/ at least 1000 GPH each. I should have some more money freed up before too long to do that. The bio-load is going to be very low for the tank size for a good while, anyway. I'm would put my 6 small new world cichlid growouts in the 300 until I get the final filtration going and then put the bass in, but then I wouldn't be able to free up the 75 as I don't want to risk cycling the tank with my lyonsi and festae.
