filtration problem

I am having a problem with my filtration. Im using a filter that is rated for 30 gallons on a 15 gallon tank. It is a HOB and i had to change the cartridges 3 times in the last week. It gets clogged with all tihs black stuff which is a mix of algae and everything. Since it gets clogged there is obviously no filtration or movement....is this normal to always change? what kind of filtration should i switch to or what do you use

Rinse the cartridges off and reuse them.

You may want to gravel vac/ siphon out alot of that crap. Don't expect that the filter should clean it all.

You also may want to look into buying a quality filter.

i gravel vac every week and sometimes more in certain spots....its not that the filter isnt working its that algae and other stuff clogs all the pores in the cartidge so no water can come through....scraping the algae and crap off works but it just gets clogged right away

what kind of filter? how often are you cleaning it?
