I have a 55 gal tank that has continued to be cloudy. I've done several water changes and have a powerhead hooked to an undergravel filter. I've tried the clearer water liquid stuff too. My HOB filter is more than adequate, What am I missing?

Is this a new set up were the water/bacteria has not "cycled"? what kind/ how many fish? Is this new substrate that perhaps wasn't pre-washed? (filtration and water changes probably would have taken care of that if that was the problem.) If it is a new set up the beneficial bacteria, which in your case would be in your under gravel filter, perhaps has not established itself.
The next question somebody is going to ask is: what do the water tests say? nitrites?

I have 7 african cichlids and a pleco in it. I put my powerhead on reverse flow and my tank is all clear now. Is my powerhead pulling too much sediment up and into the water?
could be possible, but this would look like large particles in your water. if the tank has yet to cycle, you could be a steady reading of ammonia. allowing your tank to fully cycle would be a good idea, although 8 fish is not a lot for this size tank, unless your pleco is over a foot and each of your cichlids are atleast 4" in lenght. have fun and stay up on those water changes. they are very important!!
Try some of that product "Cycle".
