Hi,

My current set up is a fresh water 55G running a Marineland 60. In the coming weeks, am planning to upgrade to a 300G tank (freshwater). What is the best cannister pump which I can consider for the new tank. The features am looking for are - Quiet, External, Cannister, Does an excellent job.

The tank is being set up in our main living room, so want to avoid the sumps and other messy media.

Your suggestions are welcome for a Cannister filtration system.

Also, any thoughts on a good heater.

Thank you.

Eheim 2260 or 2262. Preferably the 2262. Believe me you will not be disappointed.

FX5 or Eheim 2262

I have read a lot on here about filtration and I think a lotof people over do. I have a 300 gallonplywood tank. That has been up andrunning for about a year now. I have onsilver arrowana about 15 inches, onelarge Oscar, 2 clown loaches, 5 large AfricanCichilds, one large parrott fish. I havea 500 gallon pond filter I bought from Lowes

That I clean about once a month. I ran ¼ water line to the tank hooked up ainline fridge filter from Lowes that I attached a drip admitter to. Next I drilled a 3/8 water drain line where Iwanted the water line to be I also added a air wand. Water stays crystal clear I never do waterchanges at all. The arrow has doubled insize and almost no work on my part. It reallydoesn’t take that much

Eheim's are by far the best canister filter I have ever used. The are also by far the most quiet. I now people compare the FX5 to them and have heard really good things about them, I have just never owned one. Sumpwet/drys arre always good too if you plum it right they are no mess and little mantanince and are by far the cheapest option.

I agree it would take 4-5 fx-5's or big eheims 2262's minimum to do an adequate job. A a sump would be much more easy and less costly.

Sump is actually not messy at all if you have a good built and know how to use it. I run both sump and canister filter in all of my tank. IMO I like sumps better, I rarely have to do any maintenance. Now for the canister filters, they get clogged pretty fast and have to be rinsed at least once every few months. The only thing I'd recommend canister filters over a sump is the quietness. Sump never can be as quiet as Eheim canister filters even though people claim they can fix it with different methods but I tried all of them, and still think it is impossible to make them as quiet as my Eheim filters. I'm talking about DEAD SILENT (you can only hear something if you put your ear next to the filter lol.
