I own at least 15 canister filters and most of them I would never used again (Unreliable, not good for biological filtration, expensive to maintain and a real pain in the ass). The only canisters I use are for 100% mechanical filtration, use an external pumps and have a good backwash feature so there is almost no maintenance at all. If I was you I would just do a sump and a bio trickle filter or a bead filter and a bio trickle filter. Remember that biomedia in a canister filter dosnet work all that well because bacteria need contact with the air to really thrive and grow.
