Filtration Question

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i'll let you decide on what to do but here are the facts.. 2260 = 1260 pump with 635gph comes only 1" and 5/8" tubing.. now the upgrade that eheim did with 2262 = 1262 pump 900gph but now you get the two double tap connectors so cleaning the filter makes it easier.. back then when 2260 came out you have to purchase the double tap connectors separately which cost about $80-90.. facts are done.. it's all up to you on upgrading to a more powerful pump.. or just get the third filter 2262.. just like i said before shift the current 2 x 2260 to one side of the stand and you'll have room for the sump.. don't it get dull cleaning your 2260 (hope you have the double tap connectors) filter every so often..i takes me about 45mins to clean my 2260 but i upgraded all the necessary components to 2262..is your tank footprint 84"x24x30"h?? anyhow good luck...

So I recently bought a 2262 off of someone local and bought 2 1262 pumps. I put the 2262 on the tank and noticed an improved flow. I cleaned one of my 2260s today and replaced the 1260 pump with the 1262 pump and the flow seems exactly the same. I am just wanting to know what I did wrong, because there is a noticeable difference in my existing 2262's flow vs. my newly converted 2262.

Are the used 2262 filter and the newly converted 2262 filter set up with the exact same media and hose lengths? That would be the only reason I could see a difference in the reduced flow of the converted filter.

Hose lengths are different by only inches maybe not even that. Media in the 2 newly converted ones is the same and they both are at a reduced flow. I never really checked the media in the existing 2262, because the person I got it from I got the other eheims from as well so I guess I assumed he would've put the same media in. I'll check the media next weekend and see if there is a difference. So if it is my media and the amount of media in the filter is slowing the flow a bit does that reduce the GPH drastically? Basically is it normal for there to be a reduced flow with media or should the filter be running just as fast as it would empty with media? Thanks in advance

The amount, type of media and cleanliness of the media will alter the amount of flow through the filter. Whether their is a drastic reduction is another thing.

Are the 1262 pumps brand new or used?

Are you using stock Eheim green hoses or vinyl hoses?

Any PVC pipes, extra elbows and fittings or other DIY plumbing in the system?
