Filtration solution

Hi All,

I am getting ready to set up another tank beneath my main tank but i know there are one or two issues with trying to filter a tank that is, for all intents and purpose, on the floor. I know that internal filters are an option but i would prefer external if possible but the problem is obviously that the filter intake will be too high. Are there any options or filtration methods I haven't thought of? I need to keep it separate so a loop system isn't an option.

Any help is appreciated.

Your drain wouldn't have to be as complcated as this was setup for a future riparium underneath.

I've got to say that I've stared at that for a little while but I'm still not sure how the tank would drain to the filter. My understanding is that the drain needs to be above the inlet but i don't see how that works?
