I run a 70G sump with about 15-20G of bio material and an FX5 on my 600 and it works great. I saw someone say use a 3000 GPH pump but thats going to create a hell of a current in there. I had a 3500 GPH on mine originally and it was way to much and even when I got a smaller 2200 gph pump I had to adjust it down quite a bit. Of course I don't go with the whole more turnover the better idea unless its a SW tank. IMO its all about the amount of bio material but still with enough turnover to keep excess food and waste suspended in the water to get carried off to the filter. But if I had to pick from the 3 options I'd go with option #3 but the Ultima II an optional component of the set up.

I meant to vote for #3...LOL

Sump then to micron cannister then ultimaII and last an Aqua UV Steriler :naughty:

First stage > From tank to Sump

Set up micron sock filters for mechanical which will then pass through a series of Matala Media pads into a bed of ceramic rings for bio. Which will flow into an open reservoir (emergency holding station for fish if needed) then into your PUMP to return to the tank.

Second stage > From PUMP

This will then flow into the Ocean Clear Cannisters for additional Mechanical before passing through the Ultima II for again BIO. Which will then pass through the UV.

Third Stage > to Aqua UV Steriler

This will just be a preventative for unwanted parasites & such and by the time it passes through all you mechanical the flow rate should be suppressed to ensure adequate exposure time. Just read the flow chart recommended.

Fourth Stage > back to tank.

Clear water returned back to your tank = Happy Barra's..LOL

Also, pump I use is a Dolphin Ampmaster 3000

After a 3000GPH pass's through the elbows of the PVC + head pressure, Ultima II + and Ocean clear cannister this will decrease incredibly. IMO, a turnover flowrate of at least 4-5 times is sufficient for Fish that produce a high bio load.

In the end it will come down to the type of fish kept and the amount of feeding you plan to do. You don't want to over feed where your bio (filtration) cannot compensate resulting with problems with your water parameters.

With having two prized BArra's in that tank. I would rather over filtrate than to have your system crash because the lack of.

Please be sure to also buy some windex...lol
