A friend of mine runs a 2229 and swears by it. It is noisier than the rest of the Eheim range though thanks to the wet and dry bit apparently. Of course if youre considering a HOB you wont hear the Eheim over the noise of that anyway.
If you can live without the push-to-prime youd get better value to buy a pair of eheim 2217s which can be found for about the same price as a single 2229 but offer close to twice the filtration when in combination; they also run silent.
Having two filters provides redundancy and allows gives you the option of alternating your cleaning schedule. The only draw back is that a pair of 2217s will consume 40watts in total rather than a single 2229s 25watts, but that's still very little.
