filtration to clear poop

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ya man get a heafty powerhead something like hydor korlia 1050 or even a 1400 :) depending on your tank size of coarse and get it pointed so it blows water on the bottom to move the poop around and eventually you wont have NO poop laying around i NEVER have poop in my tank and i have oscars, pbass, arowana, dat, bichir, fl gar.... ya likely will have ot move and play around with where it needs to be for best results but if your bare bottom get some power heads man :)

Sponge filter attached to a powerhead. Clean it when you notice the sponge starting to "shrink". I bag the sponge under water with a plastic fish bag to keep the mulm from escaping the sponge when pulling it out.

Thanks guys for the advice! Think I will get a powerhead in :) was wondering if I direct the air bubble flow horizontally to the submergible suction point of my canister filter which has the sponge instead of vertically, will it do a good job like that of a powerhead?

The poop on the bottom does become an obsession. I for one is obsessed for seeing poop and will constantly change the water . vacum , bucket in . i have a routine now ... smallest to largest tanks .

Ok so I have decided to combine both an overhead filter with a canister filter.

There will be a powerhead in the tank that will suck the poop from the tank up into the overhead filter. After filtration is done, the water will flow out of the ohf into the canister and back out from the canister to the tank which will create current in the tank.

Will this work? The only issue I'm afraid of is that there won'rt be enough water pressure to push the water from the canister back into the tank.

The best way to polish water is a lot of mechanical filtration with a lot of water circulation and movement specially towards the filter inlet. Have a minimum of at least 6x water circulation. Add aquatic plants or pothos if possible to have better use for all that fertilizer.

i sffrf domr pothos to my tank and my oscar somehow rips them out of the planter thats hanging on the back of the tank ?? im confused lol
