Ok so here's the story guys. Tuesday night i took a Eheim Classic 1500 XL home from work to upgrade the filtration on my 125. This is my first canister so it took me a little while to set up. After about 2 hours i got it primed and up and running. Fish looked fine with the exception of a few breathing a little heavier than normal. I just figured this was because they werent used to such a strong current. Fish were fed krill and I didnt see any indication of the fish being sick. Woke up this morning to find 6 dead fish . I am completely clueless as to why this could have happened??!?!?!?! The water also is a bit cloudy

did you clean or prep the Eheim before you put it on your tank, or did it go straight from work to your home tank?

and what did you do with the filter you were running prior to the Eheim? did you run them in tandem, or did you take it off-line?

yes i completely washed the container and the media in the shower. I took the previous filters offline even though I probably should have left one running. But what I did do was pour some of the old media into the eheim.

Cloudy water indicates a bacterial bloom/cycle issue.

Looking at the fish you have listed in your "My Tank Setup"; if these are the ones in your 125g, they are very large messy fish with the potential to raise water parameters very quickly.

Do you have a water test kit? Did you check before adding the new filter? If not what are your parameters now?

yes!!! you pretty much took out all your bb colonies and probably caused an ammonia spike, thus causing your fish to die. do a quick WC and buy some seachmen stability ASAP

there's slight ammonia and the ph is dead on 7.0. I expected the bacterial bloom but not the ammonia spike :( doing a WC now.
