Filtration

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Problem is soggy...what happens if your xp3 eats and impeller or something clogs the intake. A single filter on a tank is not the best option. Way to easy for it to fail and kill all your fish if your not around to fix it fairly quickly.

tomorrow ill be looking at my lps for the prices on the filters.
we have 2 local pet shops.
i know one of them carries wet/dry and the other has both canisters and wet/dry.
ill post the prices when i get them.
thanks for your guys advice

i only found a cascade 1000. for like 130 and there was an xp2 for like 150. at my lps
any websites that ships to hawaii

I would run a xp3 set up this way; bottom basket half filled with ehfimech or fluval prefilter and 2 coarse sponges, second basket with 2 medium sponges and ehfisubstrat, or seachems matrix, third basket filled with ehfisubstrat or matrix. Along with the xp3 run a AC110 with the down tube as low as possible, rinse the sponge on a weekly basis in hot tap water(this is great mech filtration). The xp3 you will only have to service every 10-12 weeks.

I run a similar set up on my 180g(1 xp3 and 2 AC110s) with a large bioload, water params are great and water is clear. I also do a 50% w/c weekly.

www.Bigalsonline.com is currently yhe cheapest place to get both these filters

bigals doesnt ship to hawaii. i also checked that pet place they dont ship to hawaii ether. any other websites?

I've got a cascade 1200 and it's a great filter. Performance is about the same as the xp3 but the hose connect style is like better. (threads on and off with a valve to shut off each hose.) also has a nice carrying handle on the top for when your dragging the heavy sucker to the bathtub to clean it out. Cascade or xp3 you'll be fine. As I said though youd be better off adding a Hob on top of the cannister for safety imo.
