I see where you are going with this. If you use 20ppm & 30ppm filter foams in the first tray, then bio media in the second and third try, then you should be able to run only mechanical in your AC110. There will be more than enough bio in your Rena to handle the tank. You could either leave the green/white pad in the XP3 or take it out and just polish with the AC110. Although i recommend leaving it in. Every little bit helps.

Yep, thats what i want to do. Except there is only 3 trays. The first is the sponges, the second is full of bio media, and the third has crushed coral and the polishing pad.

you know, you could probably take the crushed coral out and put in more bio media. It would help keep the tank stable. do you use the coral to buffer your PH?

Yeah I just put the coral in yesterday to act as a buffer. I was thinking about that too, I could just put the biomax from the AC110 in place of the crushed coral. I already bought another AC110 though, I have just been contemplating using it because it would have to be placed almost directly over the outlet where my powerstip is plugged in, I assume it should be fine though as long as I am careful.

I forgot to add to my last post that the powerstrip I bought has a gfci plug end like a blow dryer. I bought it at walmart and it said its safe for aquariums. What would happen if it did get wet?

It would just shut off.
