Hello MFK!

Next week I have a 300 gallon acrylic tank (96"x30"x24") with dual overflows arriving:) I would like to go with two wet/dry filters rated for 300 gallons each. I am not a DIY guy, so any suggestions on what brand of wet/dry and where to purchase will be greatly appreciated.

John

Well if it were not for non-DIYers alot of businesses wouldn't be.

F/W or salt?

Here's some ref.s to give you an idea.

And Diy on these is not hard.

Cannister syles http://www.thatpetplace.com/pet/product/productInfo.web?&infoParam.itemKey=211209 a couple of these are your cleanest looking setup. there are several maufacturers.

And a good diagram of a W/D http://www.csd.net/~cgadd/aqua/wetdry.htm

Let us know how you do...

Dr. Joe,

The tank is going to be freshwater and stocked with the following fish.
Oscar, Flowerhorn, JD, Chocolate, convicts (3), Senegal Bichir, Ornate Bichir, Tire Track Eel, Silver Dollars (5), and clown loaches (4). Considering my stock list do you think two mega flow wet/dry filters rated for 240 gallons would be enough? Dr. foster and smith has them on sale right now.

try to look into makin ur own if possible. its way easier then it seems. i built a huge w/d system for my 400 gal for less then 150 bux and it pumps more then 2200gph. thats for EVERYTHING needed. u can use easy house hold items like plastic drawer sets from walmart as the drip system into a decent sized bin like the 50gal bins at walmart. maybe even make 2 w/d systems. u dont even have to worry about "gallon ratings", you just build it to ur specs with whatever media u want.

Ethnics,

Thanks for the encouragement. Two reasons why I am shying away from a DIY wet/dry, 1) not very handy at all (although the diagram that Dr. Joe linked to does not look overly complicated) 2) my tank overflows draw from both the top and the bottom of the tank, so I'm nervous that if the wet/dry is not setup perfect it will flood my basement. The company I bought the tank from said if the power goes out, the overflows automatically stop drawing water "the overflow has a weir in it that water has to flow up and over before making it to the main drain section. It is foolproof and not possible to drain the tank.". Have you or anyone else heard of this setup? Looking at some of the prices for wet/dry filters is at least making me think of the DIY route.

I hesitate to say yes, there are no flow specifiations on these W/Ds. When these fish are full grown they will be large waste generators. For the $500. you could come up with some better alternatives, lets look for a couple of days. Two 55g tanks come to mind.

The spec on this one are more favorable...
http://www.petpromenade.com/ProductDetail.jsp?LISTID=30FB0000-1062529515 maybe you could sell the protein skimmer and pump from it or try and get it without them cheaper.

And of course ebay has them from time to time.

I thought we had a member that custom made these things too.
