Fin rot on new fishfish

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I was able to order mb and kanaplex. Gonna start with the mb and see where it goes. Thx for the help bro

If you have MB on hand you could dose with that immediately and watch for improvement

Looks like its improving but i cant tell if its just dead tissue falling off because of the MB baths but still spreading.

hows the fish doing? have you started treatment yet? Being a polypterus you can probably clear it with clean water and some salt. If you want to treat just start with the MB. I would not go beyond that.

Seems like its doing better i was doing two mb baths a day for a few days.

To be honest i really cant tell if the white edges are new clean growth or new rot.

Will try and post a pic later

So ive had the fish out of qt for over a week maybe 2. Seems like the fin rot has stopped and the fish is eating but looks like some sort of fungus srt in near the tail.

I have e.m erythromycin and kanaplex. Thinking some intervention is called for.

I does look like a true fungus infection and MB is usually pretty good at treating. Try removing fish and gently scraping away fungus and dip with MB. I have to admit I'm not very experienced keeping polys so hopefully Charney Charney can give you better instructions.

Already did 6ish mb dips prior to taking him out of qt. Thanks for the reply man

When I've had stubborn cases of fungus, I would hit them with nitrofurance. I think API Fungus Cure is a good one too. J jaws7777

can you get a closer picture? I would try rubbing it off and treat with topical diluted betadine and see if that takes care of it.
