That's strange... it's in the tank by itself. The only other thing I could think of is that the heater burned a piece of it off, but the heater is set to maintain the temperature at 82 degrees F. Is that even possible lol? o_O

it could have gotten burned on the heater if it stayed by it long enough. it also could have bite its own tail. i have seen this done before. not as easy for a jar, but i saw one of my jars do it once.

Arowana can bite their tail, but I'm not sure Jardini can do that or not cuz they're too short!

silvers do it more, but don't doubt me. i sat and watched my jar do it. length has nothing to do with it. it is more flexibility. jars aren't as flexible as SA aros, but they can do it.

It is fin rot. My old lei had exactly the same thing and after 2 weeks half of it tail was gone. You need to change water more often, use salt and raise the temp up slowly to treat it before too late.

I fancied a laugh. You were on top form!

Back to the OP, I wouldn't worry about it mate. It doesn't look like fin rot to me, could have just nicked it on something in the tank.
If it is fin rot, it is not extreme, and keep up the water changes and apply meds if/when needed.

Maybe check the pics on this thread for fin rot: http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=384384&page=24

good luck mate, from what I can see of your Aro, looks fab!
that is injured fins due to sratching his body to object in the tank, how i know its my fish and i watch it with hawk eye besides no fins rodded away:naughty:

what ever it is, just keep water temperature at 80-90, add salt, and water change!
