i recently noticed my guppies have split tails. i also have a BGK and a kissing gourami and they look fine. im not sure if its the BGK nipping, i’ve had these fish quite a while and this problem hasn’t surfaced until now. i make 10% water changes every week and recently added new plants, however i additionally have had an algae problem - a lot of purple/brown algae and a few little hairs of algae. i’m not surenif this affects the water quality or the guppie’s tails.

I’d guess some nipped fins from the bgk.

maybe or just tail ware, or both. these little fish with big tails like betta, when they have to swim allot it frays there tails. my half moon betta in a 10g tank, and his tail always frayed from trying to swim more than he regularly would in a half gallon bowel. he works for his food, did I mention filtration a marineland 400 emp on a 10 gallon tank? he works very hard for his money.
