hey its me again,

this is the final setup for my soon to be african tank setup. ive been trying to find out some species of africans that could work togther that my local petsmart sells. ive been told to stay away from the "assorted african cichlid" tank in the store but nobody has really given me the reason why. my local pestmart sells the usual, common everyday africans like yellow labs, bumble bees, kenyi cichlids, auratus cichlids, blue acei cichlids, and they have one labeled under "electric blue" and i dont know if thats the right name for it. if you can , what combination from the listed above will work in my 55g tank? there are no other fish stores around my area to look in. please help!!!

"assorted african cichlid" means that Petsmart doesn't know the breed. You could either end up with hybrids or purebreeds, but it's up to you to figure it out. Do your research before hand.

You could get something good. I got a purebreed electric yellow for $2 at petco in the "assorted" tank.

Good luck !!!! :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

How did you know that you got a "purebreed" electric yellow? Just curious.

I like the rock setup...You should be fine with getting africans from Petsmart. I used to have a tank full of mbuna from there and they were beautiful. Red Zebra's, Kenyi, and especially Auratus are all pretty aggressive so it may be trial by fire and just hope they coexist ok...if you go with the Aurautus only get one...it will become the dominant fish in the tank and if you are lucky...it won't kill all the others...

I don't know exactly. I used to be in school, but I graduated, so any chance I had to running PCR are now gone :P

I have other Electric yellows that I paid full price for in LFS. The Petsmart electric yellow looks exactly the same as my higher priced labs.

Hope that helps :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2

i like the bricks... looks simple, which is good.

i'm assuming the electric blue is either an electric blue johanni, or ahli...either one is great, preffereply the ahli, they have a special place in my heart...

assorted = perlmutts basically..... i'm a bit concerned for you with the bricks. you know how they love to move things around.....

In my 55 gallon grow out tank I have as follows 5 Yellow Labs, 5 Acei, 5 Yellow top Afras cobue and a small syno eupterus. When they get bigger they will go in a bigger tank or not kind of depends on aggression.

Socolofi are pretty cool

You could go with 10-12 Demasoni in that tank

If you get labs don't get the Electric johanni or Socolofi they can crossbreed if you don't get enough of one species.
