I know there are a lot of people that trade and sell fish. And there are those that pick fish and keep them. Some get bored of their stock. Some want to try something new. Then there are those that pick fish that seemed awesome at the time, but after a month or so, they weren't what you expected. Always trying to find that one fish that will keep them entertained for the rest of their fish keeping hobby life.

How many of you have found the definite fish that you want to keep? What are they?

And how many of you are still looking for that "perfect" fish?

I've kept hundreds of species. And, after 46 years in the hobby, I have to give the title to oscars. IMO, the most well-rounded fish for fishkeepers. They're not sedentary. They're easy to feed a wide variety of foods. They reach tankbuster size. They recognize their owners and get excited when anyone approaches their tank. They're found in a palette-full of color variations. They breed readily in captivity. Etc, etc, ad infinitum. Yep. Most well-rounded, enduring, endearing, and entertaining species.

Aros FTW!

Ever since my first one I have always kept one...

crenicichla

best cichlids to keep imo

Large doradids. My platydoras armulatus and orinocodoras eigenmanni still keep my attention. Hard to ignore a 9" spiny monster when it goes coasting across the glass at feeding time in all its pokey glory. I'm still trying to spawn the p. armulatus pair, too!

I just love big (>15") panaque's. Easy to combine with almost everything and impressive.

I agree with gr8. Aros ftw, next comes dats, rays, tigs, and flowerhorns. On the other hand, I was kinda disappointed with the personality of my FRT, I thought that would be a fun one.
