Final Large Tank Setup Need Last Advice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Hmm i've been thinking of getting rid of the RUGF, just cuz im worried about it stirring up my sand too much. Now since all i have now is a 4' long spray bar i think the mag 24 will do fine right? Probably add extra holes pointing at the bottom as well. what do you guys think.

Btw i still need some answers so if someone could please help that would be great.

Hmm found this site http://www.marinedepot.com/ps_AquariumPage~PageAlias~powerheads_pumps_danner_mag_drive_supreme.html
seems to be at 1800GPH.

Now i dont have much experience with pumps so its hard for me to estimate whether its enough or not.
you have to take into consideration the height that the pump has to overcome to reach the outlets...that's called head

On this type of system that you have, you want more water to leave the tank than you can return with the pump...this way you won't overflow the tank.

The "T" is there to help reduce the amount of gurgling and possibly a siphon break. I don't see much purpose in this with the fact there should be no siphon involved in this type of overflow setup.

Yup, and sorry its actually 1700 GPH with 6' head. Also i have 2 holes in the tank that are 1 1/2" each, so im not too worried about the pump being too strong and the intakes not being able to keep up, each holes is capable of doing i think 3600GPH at max flow of water through them.

Thanks for confirming that i just wasn't sure if i needed it for my type of setup.
