FINAL THREAD sorry... Cichlid tank!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That sounds better bioload-wise, but having only 2 of each species presents a new problem. If you have 2 males, chances are larger male will bully smaller to death. If you have pairs and they breed, 3 breeding pairs of the cichlids won't have enough territory to share in a 4 foot tank. 2 females of each species would most likely work, though even females can be bullies.
I would personally recommend picking between severums or uaru, and doing a group of 4 (1m 3f would be best) with the bandits. Bandits could be a pair.
if you must have all species, a single severum with a group of 3 uaru would probably be ok. Although with cichlid communities it's impossible to give a straight answer on whether it will work or not, depends on your fish

Lots of large fish, imo it will be overstocked. I understand you want big fish but the tank isn't very large and most of the species listed are bulky, messy or skittish. You would have a much more aesthetically pleasing aquarium if you allow the species room to behave naturally. I find watching fish display interesting behaviour and generally being active superior to packing species into a small space because they are attractive. This may not make you happy to read but it is in the interest of your stock. What happened to the idea of a tetra shoal? Eventually the uaru and severums will form breeding pairs which will create mayhem and possibly casualties. Why not stock with one pair of the severums or uaru and then the sds, cats and the b/a shoal?
HI, I would love an aquarium of activity more then anything, I can chose between Uaru of severums, then you said a school of SDs, cats and what is a b/a shoal, Love this setup idea, respond soon thanks.

It only has a warning that uaru will become agro to Emerald cory when preeding

Which is best in personality Uaru or Severum

As Gourami pointed out the potential for breeding and bullying is still there. His suggestion of a harem is a good choice. I believe Buenos Aires tetras would be a good fit with the rest of what I suggested. For example try to decide on either one pair of Uaru or the Sevs, there is really only enough space for one large breeding pair in this aquarium.
Personally I prefer Uaru in a species tank. So my choice would be, 1 pair of green Severums, 18ish B/A tetras, 4 pictus, 3 banjo catifish (for the pleasant treat of seeing them and also this drags attention to the aquarium as you and friends/family can try and spot them.) and leave out the silver dollars as they really aren't needed with this stock.
