I've got 8 of them. Really cool fairly laid back fish for an african. Just had mine breed. Don't grow super fast though. Your male might not be a good breeder though. First one of mine to mature and color up had to be pulled cuz he was beating the females when they tried to go into his breeding pit.
Simple setup. At the moment its a 65g with a couple emp 400's. Got low rockwork made outa lace rock with lots of caves and a fair number of fake plants and pool sand bottom. Nobody started trying to breed till they all hit at least 3.5 inches. Male started getting colors at around 4 inches. Just in the last couple months they really have been doing the breeding dance a lot. Been backing off on water changes to let the water get harder to. Not sure if i should isolate the other two females with the one ive already separated though. Don't have the extra tanks two set up two more holding tanks.
Good luck with your little project. I've got the angry male that was a horrible breeder in with little pink cons a small jag and a bunch of ropefish and he doesnt bother any of them.
