Finally Decided on 300gal Native Tank!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Well. The guys been telling me its 300gal. We worked out a price based on that. He's not my friend really. More like a good acquaintance. I'm trying to decide if i should b a good person and tell him... It's just been sitting in his mom's house for a couple yrs anyway... He wasn't really planning on selling it. He's only selling cause i offered. I just texted him to confirm the dimensions. I might b misremembering... Hopefully I'll hear back soon. And the State office referred me to Santiam Valley Ranch to get the fish. Anyone have experience with this company?

Oh. 4got. Tank comes with oak stand too. Lemme see if i can find the pic he sent...

I've never heard of them, but looking at the website they seem like a good source for your fish. They also seem to have a good bit of variety (half the pa state hatcheries are trout only :P), have you considered a Poxomis sp. in your tank? They're supposedly pretty mellow outside feeding time and would get along with everything else pretty well.

Man, I need to find an acquaintance with a 300+ gallon aquarium laying around collecting dust and wanting to sell it cheap.

View attachment 1002722 Kinda sux. But this is it.

Looks AWESOME! Biggest tank I'm allowed to haven't my house is a 180, 240 at MAX. Soon as I move and get a job I'm not going on vacation for 8 years so I can save up for 2, 600 gals (one with sunfish, bullheads, etc and the other with trout and suckers).

That's an acrylic! If scratches bothers you, then you better inspect that tank closely.

I've thought about black crappies. They're pretty neat looking. But the pumpkinseed is more colorful, so that's y i picked them. I could get crappies, but i don't want to overstock the tank :) Might get some later depending on how the water parameters turn out. Scratches don't really bother me too much. Big gouges that stop me from seeing my collection is a no go. But small scratches r ok with me.

Of course, this is all just talk, so we'll need pics to confirm this is all legit ;)
Oh I'll b posting like mad! Need wood now. I can't put in real plants cause of the turtles. But I'm Trying to figure something out to give fish hiding places while not just feeding the turtles. Best i can come up with is make a little underwater forest of wood or something similar. Previously i used lots of rocks. But I'm thinking wood will b easier and much less labor intensive to clean. But will use some rocks i think.

That's what you get for doing turtle :), just kidding, turtles are cool, just to restricting on things such as plants and tankmates for me. My LFSs have a lot of good driftwood but no HUGE stuff. the best answer if you want some really nice, large, natural looking wood is go to your nearest body of water find a piece or two you like and take it home. First strip all the bark, then boil for a half hour or so, soak it for a few days, boil again, soak for a few days again, and repeat that a few more times to let all the water from its origin boil out and safe stuff get in. Depending on where you got it is the variable in how many times you need to boil and soak it, for example if you get wood from a pristine creek that people aren't on much you wouldn't need to wash itmuch where as a piece from a "filthy" river would need washed many, many times.
