finally filling up my 220g from begin to end picture

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
You definitely need to add some vertical 2 x 4 supports, front & back, to carry the weight of that tank. Unfortunately, this needs to be done before the tank is filled with water. I would also recommend some plywood panels be installed on the framing to prevent racking of the stand.

Also would recommend plywood floor underneath the acrylic sump. That should be fully supported.

Very nice looking tank & sump BTW. Sorry to be such a whiner on the stand construction. That is a lot of weight to be supported by that stand.

Congrats! awsomew tank bro , I am so happy you got yoruself a MONSTER! =), I am also gonna be getting me a 100+ gallon tank soon....with in the next couple weeks I know I am very excited ! my Idea is to use my tank as a grow out tank and then next year upgrade to a bigger tank or maybe a Pond with a veiwing window .

I hate to say anything cause I know how excited you are and everything but I do agree that your stand needs more bracing and some plywood on the sides and under the sump ... we ain't trieing to nic pic on ya but we know how much you Love that tank and we are looking forward to seeing pictures of it and do NOT want to see anything bad happen to it .... better be safe then sorry ....

Again Awesome tank for real ...even as I have been writing this I caught myself stoping writing and scrolling up and looking at the pic!! LOL :)

thanks deeda and cakilla, i agree with the support for the stand, and i've never thought about supporting the sump till you guys have mentioned it. i will get my self a plywood sometime soon, and the 2 x 4 that use to support the middle of the stand is actually under the sump supporting the sump lol, so i will have to make change to that, and thanks for the good words, i look forward to see your tank and pond, (you know you should just go with the pond right away lol) and the pond with glass idea is awesome, except i can't do it here in canada, or else the fish will be come popsicle. so you can bet i will be the first to see your pond and tank once you have set it up and post it on MFK!

you're right, it is bent, and i noticed that because you told me, one of the joists under the tank is few mm above the horizontal 72in 2x4. and now i can't put my middle support back because it got down by few mm and is literally impossible now to put the middle support, i used hammer to put it back in place, but then i got scared because the noise is making. so i'll have to cut a new 2x4.

but this is the thing though, i have joists hammered in under the tank which distributes the weights evenly so it should kill the stand, here is what i mean. take look at the pic (using how the house work effect...lol)

never the less, i shall cut a new 2x4 and support the middle (the orignal one way to little difference to be cut perfectly, so i'll have to make a new one...sigh..unless you guys got any ideas :O)

Adding the vertical 2 x 4's needs to be done when the tank is EMPTY!! A properly constructed stand is vital to keeping your tank from being stressed and leaking or breaking.

Look at some other stand construction threads that explain the proper way to build a stand.
