FINALLY found a Red Terror festae!!!

Well, as if the awesome Gar pick-up earlier today wasn't cool enough, when I dropped off 10 Convicts @ 2-3" at another LFS on the way to my Vet to pick up one of my dogs (my little female baby girl just had 8 cancerous lumps removed AGAIN, 3rd time in 4 years), as I dropped them off, the 1st tank I looked in had a 4" male Festae for $24.99, so I double-checked the tail-spot and markings and I said "HEEELLLLLL YEAH", so I got him for an even trade.

1st-timer, super-psyched about it. I have him in my stage 2 grow-out, 55g just because I don't want him to kill the stage 1's and he's not ready for the stage 3's yet so I had to make the call. It is what it is - he is with other like-minded cichlids and some catfish and they already accepted him and kinda put him in his place at the same time lol. I have high-hopes, so keep your fingers crossed for me (and also so the cancer doesn't come back)

I'm about to fire-up the battery charger so I can post pix of the half-dozen new pick-ups I added this week in a bit

Wait. What? Your LFS gave you $2.49 trade value per convict? How are they still in business?

I realize they didn't pay $24.99 for the Festae, but still, my LFS has big signs on their tanks "We do not recommend people by 'pairs' of Convicts. We do not accept Convicts on trade."

On a side note their all male Con tank is chalk full of gorgeous big males.

On a side note their all male Con tank is chalk full of gorgeous big males.

It's kind of in a ritzy area where everyone has money and multi-million dollar houses (UNLIKE my area ) so the prices on everything in the area are higher than elsewhere, so he probably sells them for $6-8$. There were 2 normal (Het. for pink) and 8 Pinks, so he initially said $2 each. I usually only get $0.50-$0.85 each for 1" and under if that makes more sense to you.

Some of our LFS don't give anything for Convicts though. He was alos just helping me out cuz i'm hurting for cash and I needed the tank-space anyway - we been friends for close to 20 years

Looking forward to it. How old is the hound? My girl (Rottweiler) will be 15 in June - which is ancient for her beeed! We adopted her when she was almost 4 years old. I like to think her clock reset when she came home! I used to say "Just make it to 10 Cora, give me 6 good years!"

Then I had kids and I'd say "Just make it long enough so that the kids will remember you."

Now I say "Thank you for every single day Cora. Please let me know when it's time because I'm afraid I won't know it when it comes".

My fish will always have a place in my house, but these dogs, they get a place in our hearts.

Indeed, Sir. She just turned 9 in September - 50% American Pitbull Terrier (Colby bloodline), 50% American Bulldog (Johnson bloodline) and she's the sweetest thing, but she is sooooooooooo protective over me - 10X more than any monstrous-sized male I own/owned

For any other MFKers interested in festae in the midwest, I just saw an add in the gcca.net classifieds (Chicago ) titled 4 Nandopsis which includes festae (7 for $20) placed by PlecoPete, there is also an adult breeding group for sale (photos of fish in the add.

Congrats! Festae are quickly becoming one of my favorites. I have 4 in the tank and one of them has been growing fast.
