Yeah then you need a 3 big females so he can choose his lady
Sounds like a good plan.

I attempted some more pics, but this thing is as camera-shy as my Doviis :(

why would you get females larger than the male.....not a good idea with festae. they aren'y as simple to breed as amphs. they are much more sensitive and a lot harder on eachother.

Looking good. Basically what my tank is evolving into...Festae and amphilophus
I'm looking at growing him out w/ some other aggressive fish, hopefully i can get some similar or slightly larger sized females now before everything starts to get that "I'm-bigger-now-so-i'm-gonna-start-being-an-asshat" mentality

For any aggressive cichlids , for myy personal preferences I would always rather have the females dominant since the males tend to beat the living crap out of them if they aren't submissive and mate when he wants to

yes, that theory might work for most, but you'll quickly find out that the chances are that female wont except a smaller male. they prefer a larger male as they see it as a better guardian of the fry. Also she will fight him HARDCORE to test him to see if he is strong enough to guard the fry, if he is any smaller, not gonna be great.

Super dominant male, only a tad bit smaller than this female. She was interested, but he couldn't keep fighting and i had to divide them. he put on some more size, after he was about an inch bigger than her, i pulled the divider....got fry.

I'll take your word for it, you definitely have some of the nicest-looking Festae i have ever seen

I've been trying to breed my female terror for a while now she killed the first male I had with her once he got big enough. I come home one day and he was beat up so I took it that he tried his luck with her and she done him in. A week later he died.

The male she is with now, she's ok with him and he's not much smaller then her as they've been together a while. She lays her eggs I'd say every few months and still I get nothing. Anything you think I could do as it sounds like your good at this with the festae
