This is NOT true at all.

Trimacs almost always have more than 3 spots...and I cant think of a single one Ive seen in 20 yrs that only had 3. The pet shop given name "3 spot cichlid" is a misnomer, like green texas, blue texas etc. No such thing. Just a cute little name probably given by someone that couldnt pronounce or spell the latin taxonomy.

But the chance is still there. so unless you see the pictures and it's NOT a trimac, stfu :D

and if rapps is selling it as "pure trimac" then it's most def. a pure trimac.

This is not entirely truth Trimacs do have more than 3 spots, i live in Guatemala and i got mine from a river and both the male and the female have five or six spots, what happens is that there are 3 spots that are more defined and dont fade with age, one on the shoulder, one in the middle section and one on the tail, thats why they are called 3 spots cichlids.

Congrats by the way, we will have to wait for the pics so we can tell if its a Trimac
 
I do have to agree with the others that the fish you're getting is probably not 100% Trimac. The price just doesn't add up.

Also, for anyone questioning Jeff Rapps credibility, you should really do your research. He's as legit as it gets.

As for Trimacs with more than 3 spots, it doesn't mean a thing. Trimacs almost rarely have exactly 3 spots. Anyway, even though I'm a Flowerhorn enthusiast, its still awesome to see an amazing pure species. Post pics asap.:D
 
The pure big males that I see have 3 defined spots and maybe a few black splotches. I'm not questioning rapps.. I did think that the true Trimacs had only 3 spots. Im glad you've cleared that up from what internet articles have said.
 
All i can say is WOW some of the members of this site are really hung up or something i dont get it....Is there a beleif that there is no longer trimacs out there???
anyhow ive got to pics that are of low quality but should be good enough to see until i get it home... i will transport it in large plastic bags filled with water and air..then the bags will be put into a styro box not the first transport ive done to get fish i want
