yeah with the open top idea you are also gonna want to make sure that the light balast that you are using is surge proof
and cleean off your lights on the reg so you dont get residue and the proper light rays dont make it into the water

Thats how my 75 has been for yr now. Evaporation isnt really all that bad...its defintely faster than my tanks w tops but. Was cheap, easy, and havent had an issue.

Best luck is to go to a small local hardware store, they always have it.

could you tell me what isle it was in lol. i know all the stores are different but if you could tell me in what area of the store it would be in that would be great.

Thanks to this post, I just found out that I have been using "egg crate" for years!!! I kept wondering what in the world everyone was talking about when I kept seeing egg crate mentioned in posts, but, just never got around to asking "what the heck is it"!!!

I've used it in the past for "dividers". Now, I've changed my substrate to sand and will use egg crate, at a certain depth, and then more sand on top of it (I've got digging cichlids).
