Finally found pacmans in uk!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
after all the effort i put in to tryma find one im thinking maybe i shouldnt? I like to keep my tanks hotter than thier ideal temps, i completely over looked that, i would to have one and il make sure nxt time im ready!

Miguel, if and when i am ready properly, can u source them regualy? Il speak to dan in a bit and let him know what i decide and see about future availability from him...

Don't give up on them!!! Sometimes its years before we get them, as you have seen!

I live in very hot Portugal. They stressed when the tank reached 30ºC. They are very well between 27º and 28º C.

Ideal temps should be around 25º - 26 Cº, but I have no problem at said 27º -28º.

Perhaps I overdid the "alert" and was misintrepreted by you guys...
Don't give up on them! Just watch temp a bit more closely and, I am sure, it won't be difficult, even in the summer, to keep a tank around those temps, in the Uk...

You do what you want, my friend. They may get used, but it is not their ideal conditions.

Mine get stressed.

You just have to google ( it would be easier if you read portuguese ) it. The brazilians have a lot of published work on the pacmans ( for fishculture purposes ). They breed them intensively at the 3 Marias Pisciculture centre near the 3 Marias Dam in the Sao Francisco River.

But, as said, to each his own...:)

i dont want them to die...
is there any way to keep the tank cooler?
without using a cooler.
like using a background to block the tank from the sun.

big tank is bang on 28 most the year but peaks at 30 on hot days... i well give it some more thought, but i just dont think its a wise move now, i want it really badly dont get me wrong, but i would rather wait and do it in a cooler tank. id have to put the polys in with my gator gar if i got it neway so its not ideal.

i used to keep one no probs in a tank at 31 degrees - it was in the top tier of my fish house - it grew from 5" to about 18" in about 2 years - growth was not overly rapid - I tried an FRT with mine for a while - the frt ate his pectoral fins - then was moved the cat was fine but the fins grew back slightly deformed.

I used to keep mine with all sorts of fish from stingrays to asian aros, a few cichlids and other cafish - never had any probs at all with it.

how much are you paying for the fish ? - funnily I am hoping to get a couple in about 3 weeks - they should be about 10-12" and i'll be selling one of them

its only about 5" and £200... I had a few chaka n all have gone after polys so i figure a l.alex will too... I have more than enough space to relocate the polys but they would still be in harms way... If i cud get a l.alex twice the size it could go in with the gator i geus... He's too bout 20" and i dont think a l.alex would go 4 20" gator but i duno... How much would u been lookin 4 that 10"er?
