Thanks krismos and Hao for enlightening me. It really does just seem like congicus to me, not another polypterus species. Like Hao stated only discovered in 2021 so no one really knows yet ?

They've been discovered before that. Just never been imported into the hobby until this year. We don't know for sure if its an actual congicus thus the name Polypterus sp. aff. "congicus" meaning unknown species resembling congicus. Need more studies done on them.

Famous photos of big size Giselas bichir from Mr. Hiroki komeiji.

He collected those specimens in Kirando, Tanzania (as he wrote on his twitter, last photo)

Which is same place with where juvenile Giselas i posted are collected.

I got 12pcs of Polypterus sp. Tanganyika AKA giselas bichir from Kirando area, south east coast of Lake Tanganyika. (11 are mine and 1 is other local fishkeeper's one, it will go to his tank shortly)

The fisherman who collect these fish say they live in very deep place in the lake (max 200m) with Frontosa and Boulengerochromis and hunt them for main diet.

They say 80cm size are quite common in the lake and i think they can reach 1m in the wild.
