Finally after 2 years I have gotten my first festae. Still fry's at about 1-1.5" some of them already have nice reddish blue fins. I got 6 of them and picked up 5 cuban fry also...Really excited to see what thsese guys are going to be! Will post pics as they become bigger

SWEET! cant wait to see pics! and make sure to remember that these guys come fighting tooth and nail straight from the egg so make sure their grow out tank is pretty sizable and watch out for con-specific aggression to make sure they dont go all highlander on you like mine did

nice choice of fish to keep. Both are the stunning breeds of cichlids.. I've never owned cubans yet but I've seen some in person and they are really cool. pics and vids never do justice because they shine in person.
Festaes are vibrant in colors.
give them good food, and care and they will be nice!

Just got fry saturday,still small less than an inch but eating like champs.Hope they turn out to be stunners as well.
Beautiful fish!! I have them in a 29 for now with lots of hiding...the breeders this gentleman had were absolutely mind blowing! I had never seen a festae in person and just absolutely stellar!! His cubans were Aces too!!

yeah be careful with that 29g, i think its the same length as my 20g long, 30in right? thats what i had mine growing out in and it was planted and had caves and everything and they straight up pestered each other until the smaller ones, one by one bloated and died until i only had one left by the time he got just over an inch, and make sure to not feed them too much protein, i noticed that when i was feeding brineshrimp too often some of them bloated and died so i just stuck with hikari first bites and crushed flake until they got bigger, when they are still that tiny they still need more veggie based than protein diet, but yeah festae are awesome fish i wish i would have kept my little guy but he was just too aggressive, he was totally fine with the fish that were larger than him but anything i tried to put in the tank that was his size he straight up pestered and tore at them till i had to put them in my hospital tank, he was a beast lol
