They did it before, but this is the first time they spawned in my tank :)

Happy :D

The white stuff is actually sand. I don't know if they sprinkled sand on the eggs deliberately or by accident.

Tank shot (Sorry for the crappy picture). I set up a spawning site for them in the left corner - I guess they liked it :D You can also see the Guianacara guarding eggs in the cave on the far right side. The H. notatus pair also spawned for the second time in another tank. What a weekend :nilly::nilly:

Wow, those parrots make that tank seem small!! Congrats, parrots are not the easiest cichlids to breed.

Well done. Amazing what happens when you give fish some space!

Matt

Thanks Matt. I think you are right - they are very confident fish, but probably didn't feel safe to spawn in the previous community tank (a 220g).

Congrats on the spawn. The tank layout is brilliant.

Thanks. If only I can manage lighting like you!

LOL I had the same feeling when I first saw the picture myself :D

I'm just happy that they aren't trying to kill anybody (yet)!! :nilly:

Nice Peter congrats! How long did they court before actually spawning? I have to get rid of mine so I get to enjoy yours instead. They look great.

Thanks Justin. They had been slowly getting in the mood for the past few weeks. The first sign I noticed was that the female started displaying to the male, and would not back down when the male tried to push her (she used to "run" as fast as she could). Then they took the left side and started chasing other fish off...then eggs.

Why are you getting rid of yours?

2010 is the year for less experiments and more experience... I need to expand on the groups I have. I am putting together an order with Rapps this month to complete the groups I want to keep long term so I need to thin out the stock. Mine is pretty aggressive as well. I'll keep them again down the line when I can set up a few more tanks. ;)
