Finally got Hoplarchus psittacus to spawn

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Congrats! watch out though psittacus tend to be egg eaters. I have always had to hatch them out away from the parents because they would eat the eggs. Good luck!

Eggs look good so far, and parents are behaving.

Is it me or do they really have big eggs?

 Guess I need to make room for 3 spawns! Ken

I think I know which three tanks I'll help you empty out :nilly:

Looked into the Guianacara cave earlier tonight and saw one wiggler on the wall, so they CAN breed :headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2:headbang2Some eggs were gone and others haven't hatched. I'll keep a close eye on them.

Thanks Bob! I appreciate the advice. I'll give them a chance this time....if they eat the eggs I'll have to do what you do next time.

All three batches of eggs were gone...didn't have time to look for wigglers....I hope the psittacus didn't eat them :(

Congrats! Please just watch to make sure the male doesnt turn on the female.

Thanks Alex! The male has been a gentleman for the last few weeks, ever since the female decided she wanted to breed. Would love to know your experience with them - how long it took the eggs to hatch and what they did afterwards, etc.

Fingers crossed that u find some wrigglers mate.

Cracking pair tho, really nice beefy brutes.

great job man! woohoo!
this is my personal two cents, but the red severum stands out quite a bit amidst the other naturally colored fish :)

Thanks guys! Haven't found wigglers but parents are hanging around the area. May have to turn some rocks.....or may have to wait till next time :(

ewok - I agree....the red and the gold both I guess. But of all the fish in that tank I've had them for the longest....a bit attached. Maybe I should move them to another tank after all...and give them another chance to make babies :D

yeah GL i hope they spawn again for you peathenster. :D
