Very nice! I really like the slideout for the filter! That's a great idea!
My son thought of that after he watched me get out a filter to clean it one day. He's always thinking!!

looks great and that stands looks better then whta you could buy at stores or online
Yes, and way cheaper too. An Oceanic stand and canopy for this tank retails at $1500. My son is building mine for under $500 in materials and it's quarter sawn white oak. I'll give him a nice bonus for Christmas. ;) Of course I had to buy the lights extra.

Your BGK looks elegant among all those beautiful potted plants.. i cannot believe how thick and deep black he is.. very healthy... doing great ..thanks for sharing him... what a Happy BGK..!

Thanks Liz, I think he is quite happy, and always hungry. :D What kind of hiding place should I get for him when he goes into the big tank? I was thinking about getting some 4 inch black PVC pipe. I think the bristlenose will find places to hide on the wood.

great looking bgk
Thanks, I don't have anything to compare him to, so I had no idea if he was a nice one or not. He is not afraid of me. I can hand feed him blood worms. He does not swim up to my hand for them unless it's night time, but during the day I can pus some right in front of his face and he'll eat them.

I'm pretty nervous about putting the BGK in the tank with the 8 German Blue Rams and 6 Corydora. He has not bothered any small fish to date. (bristlenose, cardinals or dwarf neon rainbowfish) But the Corydora and Rams are bottom dwellers and would get into his turf. How long can he stay in the 40 breeder??

Thanks Tango!!

Most every leaf except the youngest and newest leaves melted away...BUT I finally got my drop checker to green yesterday...I had to crank the PH controller down to 5.5 and go with 2bps to get there. Last monday I had to remove all of the fish as they had ich... They are on their last day of meds and heat...doing well. I think the tank was too cool for them. Since they have been gone I have adjusted to heat up to 83 deprees...(in anticipation of not having ich again and maybe someday having some Discus.)
drop checker...isn't it cute??

It's looks pretty skimpy right now, but it's a start back to lushness...patience...I must have patience. One more week or two and hopefully all the fish will be moved back into the big tank...including Casper the friendly Ghost Knife.

Oh I forgot to add....I never thought I could get so excited just because the solution in the drop checker turned green from blue. LOL

I have the CO2 tubing connected to the XP3 uptake tube...but I had been using my Tom Surface Skimmer and finally realized the CO2 was coming out of the skimmer instead of up the tube.....point of least resistance. After that, it started to work, so basically for the 5 days I was using the skimmer I had no CO2 injection...

I love the stand, can't wait to see the canopy. I wish I had the tools to do that. I am a bit of a planted tank guy, so I am curious about your plans for lights and ferts. Also, what substrate did you use?
I was sad to hear about your first plants melting. That is not much fun.

Gosh thanks, I was pretty sad about them melting too, but they are looking super healthy and dsrk green as they come back, which is encouraging. I used aquariumplants.com substrate. I bought 2 5 gallon buckets and didn't use it all. I also bought 100 pounds 3M black color quartz sand s-type (rounded beeds vs sharp) and was going to use it in the center between the wood and in the front because it is really nice looking, but I couldn't keep them fron mixing together without putting in an unsightly border of rock or something to keep the two separated so I scrapped that idea. I'll use the quarts sand in my 40 gallon tank.

I have 6 X 85W T5HO lights with individual metal reflectors that are 59 inches long. I can run 2, 4 or all 6 at a time, they are wired separately. There are 6 lunal moon lights too. I'll probably only run 4 of the T5's...I kind of went overboard before I knew 2 WPG was all I needed for any plant out there. LOL

My son still needs to put some trim around the top of the stand to fill the gap between the tank and the stand top. He wanted it too look kind of antique mission style. He made that 3 groove pattern at each end of the stand with a router bit and you maybe can't see it but the inside edge of each cabinet door face has that same groove on the verticle frame trim. I love it too. He did a great job with it.
