Finally got myself a VATF

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Wow congrats on your atf!
I have a similar situation, had atf long ago. Died at over a foot when it got stuck in a massive wood log, i was devastated.
Haven't seen them for quite some time, doing other hobbies.

I picked one up today in my 120, vittatus. Very happy I found one.

Update, the two little guys are still doing good in the same tank. One of them is the alpha and chases around the other but not as bad as I had thought they would react to being in the same tank... Here is a layout pic I made for the two little guys from since I got them to now:
Little guy 1, he has a few battle scars but I guess thats a given:

Looking good bro!

i've kept a bunch of ATF''s and from my experience, VATF are much easier shoalers with each other and GATF seem to get irritated at each other. Regardless though, my VATF always punked the GATFs. That being said, for some reason when I'm looking at your ATF, they all seem to have a protruding lower jaw with an angle and slim body which gives me the inclination that they are maybe FATF.

I can see why I'd have thought these were maybe-vatf in the very beginning, but with time and better pics, these fish are most definitely fatf.

Props to greenerinks greenerinks for getting it right.

Thanks guys, I had a feeling that they weren't VATFs... And that explains why they aren't growing that fast... I think one of the smaller ones might be a vatf tho' but I could be wrong.

Its been a while since I updated this thread with new pics of the guys... Also, mods, if possible could you please change the name of this thread? From the comments above, we have all IDd the ATFs here as FATF.

Here is Flash the ATF, at 9.5":

Here is mini flash at 6.5", pretty banged up because I had put him in with flash for a bit. Everything was fine for a month or two but then things started to go bad... So I had to move him back into my growout with the GATFs :

Now Flash shares the tank with Mr Fang :). A red tail payara:
