Was at a great shop in spokane today, and picked up a cobalt blue discus. They had several discus I wanted, but I couldn't afford them all. I'll post pics tomorrow when the lights come on.

That fish is Stunted (big eye). i hope you take good care of him so he can bounce back a bit...... but from what i can see he is in a planted tank which will just stunt him even more. get him in a BB tank and feed him well. or you can leave him in there if you do daily 50% water changes.

also it is dangerous to put a new discus in your discus tank without quarantining the new discus.

good luck...... how much did you pay for him??

This discus is from a trusted source. I do not intend to do water changes that heavily as this is a planted tank. I also won't setup a BB tank just for the one discus.

ok................................................. than why did you buy him?? if you will not take good care of him??

FIRST, you should carefully read my post. SECOND, you should watch the way you come across on the board. THIRD, you should not take what I say and make something different. No where in my post did I state that I would not be taking good care of this fish. Your suggestion of WC schedule would be detrimental to the rest of my tank.

well sorry if i sounded like a a-hole but it's what has happened to me in the past and what has happened to everyone with juvi discus in planted tanks.

just telling you what probbably will happen.

also just to inform you... the discus looks like he has patterns and not "solid" blue (which is the usual coloring of a cobalt) so its eather a turquoise or a strainted cobalt.

Good luck :)

I realize that many juvy discus do get stunted in planted tanks, however I closely monitor my TDS, nitrate, iron, co2, phosphates, calcium, pH, KH, GH, and temp. I have had two juvy discus in the tank that have grown quite well, and quite fast since they were first put in the tank nearly 3 months ago. The three largest in the tank came from a friend who got them when they were only the size of silver dollars, and had a similar setup to mine. All three grew up quite nicely, and are still growing quite well.

I was looking at the little one, and he is very slightly striated, but definitely not a turq. He has very nice coloration (although my camera can't capture that) and my wife really liked him which is why I got him anyway. He also was a pretty good price, but we will see how he turns out in the long run.

he should turn out to be a great looking discus. im sorry about what i said before, just wanted to be sure that you knew the risk.. but you sound like you are not new to discus ...... also when you said.. " however I closely monitor my TDS, nitrate, iron, co2, phosphates, calcium, pH, KH, GH, and temp." .........could you tell me what you keep your NitrAte/PH/Hardiness/and temp at??? and how often do you do Water changes and how much water do you change at a time??? maybe that will help me out too in the future if i get juvies again and if i decide to put them in a planted tank.

thanks.
