Finally got ornate....Yes!

I have been wanting an ornate bichir for along time but usually had obstacles in my way of getting one. Well, I finally got one yesterday. This has got to be one of the most coolest fish I have seen. This thing has got a personallity of dog.

My major obstacle this time was the 3 RBP's I had. I found a good home for them. One of my friends from work wanted them. He seemed sincere and I think will take very good care of them from some conversations we have had about keeping fish. He has owned P's before and thought about getting some more.

Later I'll be getting a larger tank for him when he gets bigger. It still has plenty of room in my 55 gal. for now. In the 55 gal. now is my ornate bichir, 1 four line pictus, and 1 farlowella cat.


I only have one thing about him though. My bichir is missing one eye. I didn't notice that at the LFS, but that's not to say it didn't happen there either. From what I have watched it is getting along great with its tankmates. I was thinking of going back and trade it for another one, but the drive is long and it seems to be doing just fine.

1 eye bichirs seems sorta common nowa days. ornates are awesome. i just wish they grew faster. but they grow fast enough to notice, but not like O DAMN fast lol,

I hope mine doesn't grow too fast. I got it in a 55 gal. for now until I can get a bigger tank like atleast 180. So it'll have something wide to turn around in. Mine is only about 6-8 in. now and is doing great in my tank so far.

I had a sengal once and liked it. I think bichirs look so freaking cool. I think you maybe right. I'm already doing some thinking on it.

My ornate 15" has only one eye as well, not easy to spot when you pick up the fish but does not seem to affect him in any way

you will enjoy the ornate, good choice! i've been shocked by mine before in behavior and appetite, e likes to sit on the clown knifes back and once again got a goldfish that was waaay too big for it, so I thought. heres'a few stages of eating the thing you might find interesting

We have endlicheri, I can get one cheap, but I thought the colors were unimpressive compared with my Gold Dust and the Ornates. Should I go with an ornate, or the Endli?
