Finally got pics of my JAG

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Obviously you dont understand or you wouldnt take other people's observations about their own fish,, as some kind of personal slight. That doesnt mean all fish bought in chain stores are the same quality. My purchase of a wild fish has nothing to do with 'privilege' (I only wish) but with priorities.

heres my male from petland discounts. I bought him as a 1 inch baby hes 7 inches in this pic. the OP has a male I could almost guarantee cuz mine looked exactly like his at that size and it has the face of a male already. dont let noone belittle petland(this guy just thinks his wild fish is superior, understandable im sure he payed a fine price for the bragging right) most of those fish from petland come from Singapore and other foreign places where they are selectively bred carefully then shipped to retail petstores in large orders. I used to work in petland.I know were my fish came from. and if you see a jag at petland with "washed out" colors its not inbreeding dummy its poor conditions. my friend had a beautiful petland jag he raised, he gave it back to the store for store credit and the minute it hit the tank in the store its colors went from great to washed out and stayed that way the whole time it was there. when jags are stressed the colors wash out temporarily. and females almost always look drab its just the way it is, they are the more undesireable of the the two sexes for that reason. schooled View attachment 983395

You might want to consider your grammar and punctuation if you're going to "school" someone, as you put it. All it did was highlight your own shortcomings in that department. There was nothing in the post to warrant such an attack anyway. I found it to be a rather plausible generalisation. I could make any number of assumptions about you from your comments and choice of avatar, but that is all they would be without actually knowing you. Fact is you jumped to conclusions based on your interpretation of what was said. Not very nice in my opinion.

That's my pair, no idea where they are from. I was going to hold out for a wild pair but saw these and really liked the size of the female and the pattern of the male. His pattern is fairly similar Winston.Smith male, i'm not sure if all males get this pattern when they get older or its a trait of where their line came from.

You little jag is hard to sex at that size, you could try venting him/her. They are normally dark like that when stressed or if there not the dominant fish in the tank.

thats a nice looking jag i recently lost my jag due to bad heater i was out of station and heater went out :(

Thanks all for your input. I didn't get mine at a petland or petco or anything like that so that argument doesnt matter. Thank you for your input though it is appreciated.

I love to see all the pics you guys uploaded, thank you. For those of you who said he looks stressed you may be right. He has been skittish but water quality is good and he has plenty of hiding spots and I have not seen anyone chase him. He has been eating ok. He isn't as aggressive as the other fish but he is still pretty bulky looking. It has been two weeks so I am not sure why he is still stressed. When I first introduced him he got chased by my Fire mouths but they have been removed. I am hoping he gets used to me being around and becomes less skittish. I will keep this post updated as he grows.

Young Jags are usually nervous little things until they bulk at which point they either kill everything or find their place in the hierarchy

I grow out some jags, from around 3 inches to 7 inches maybe. They we in with other bigger fish, they all had a similar color pattern to your fish. When the biggest got big enough to become boss of the tank he colored up fine. So i would not worry about it at all.
