Over the weekend I was lucky enough to get an invite to uncover and release baby loggerhead sea turtles.

The ironic thing was, just that morning I was fishing with my dad and after seeing several big turtles we talked about how we've never seen a baby sea turtle.

A few hours later I met a lady from the local sea turtle patrol. We got to talking and she invited me to a nest site they were planning on digging up because they had been hearing the baby turtles in the nest but they hadnt dug out yet.

After sunset we met up at the beach and they dug up over sixty healthy turtles. They transported them a few yards from the water where we were allowed to release them. My five year old daughter had a blast and it was an experience I will never forget. Ive seen some giant loggerheads while fishing and I was surprised how tiny they were. I felt bad for them actually, given how small they are, I can clearly see how hard of a road ahead they have. No pictures for obvious reason but it was still a great experience to be able to have and to even better to be able to share it with my daughter and father.

One of the places my wife and I like to visit in Mexico has a turtle farm where they breed sea turtles and raise them until they're big enough to have a good chance at survival in the ocean. There is nothing more mesmorizing than staring into a pool filled with hundreds of baby turtles and watching them play and interact with each other.
