Finally more Jag Pups!!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The male was 12" and the female was 15". Currently the male is still 13" range and the female is just over 16". They have both been in captivity for close to 4 years now and came in around 8". Their first pup was born 2 years ago

Interesting.

I would have expected them to have gown much bigger. How often do you feed?

When the female was smaller she rapidly outgrew all the Marbles she was housed with. Was an absolute pig at feeding time.

We feel as though the nice Jags are to the Castexi world as a Marble is to the Motoro world. Looks nicer, stays smaller. Fishdog just seems to be proving it. :)

I feed 5-6 times a week mainly tilapia and shrimp. I mix in pellets and night crawlers every so often. They are in a 750 with a 200 gpd drip system and get a 200 gallon water change every 2 weeks when I back flush the filter

I dont think they stay smaller.

Raul´s jags are anything but small. :) He used to export and lives in the jungle. So he should know. :)

I dont doubt you are taking great care of your fish, Fishdog. Just wondered why they were so "small".

Mabye you are just lucky. :)

Maybe it is collection point or I just got lucky. I have been told that these come from a different river system in Peru but could not tell you which one.

Maybe it's me, but I don't see any rays in that vid that look like his Jags, unless maybe she's change a bunch or they change with age.... Looks to me like big ol Castexi.

And for the record, I deny your reality of "Everything's Falkneri now" Anders, and replace it with the reality we all live in- "the ray world" where a Castexi is a Castexi, a High spot Jaguar Otorongo is a Jag, and a Falk is a falking Falk! lol :) 3 different things. At least 2 different sizes. While they might be "big" and "bigger" they aren't all "bigger" which, why sugar coat it, is huge.

The two dark rays have yellow spots. Isent that a jag? :) I know its not the best video, but it does give you an idea of their size. :)

According to him, 80 cm females are common.

I dont know if you guys remember alex who used to be on this forum. He had a pretty big "castexi" collection.

He had a few "jags" around the 60 cm mark. All from Raul. :)

I'd call them Castexi, but not Jag. You know how "scientific" I aim when it comes to the names.... lol Thank you for understanding..... The quality of Jag that Fishdog has aren't easy to find over here. We see lots of rays with yellow spots, but it seemed to me the ones with clumps or groups of yellow spots like the "paw prints" got bigger then the ones carrying single yellow spots - the ones that look like P14 but yellow...... Like the last trio that Alex posted pics of. I remeber Alex and his rays very well..... Those where some of the only ones I've seen that I'd consider similar quality to Fishdogs, though honestly I don't see a lot of yellow rays, just not all that common over here.

Could you convince Alex to do an update OR just send you pics to post? I'd love to see how his have developed.

I don't think it really matters how big they get, most of us die hards prepare for the worst and hope for the best when it comes to max size.
