Nice looking set up. I love that sump! As far as your next tank goes, get a 2ft wide tank. They're so much nicer and once you get one, you'll understand what I mean. One question for you, what is the egg crate for?

Thanks! I probably could've built one cheaper, but I got this new setup kit for $275 after shipping for the sump, bio, hoses, dual overflow and return spout, as well as the 1300 GPH submersible pump, I figured it was worth it!

The egg crate under the sand? I put that in there in case one of the rocks drops to lessen the chance of a crack in the bottom! I cut them to fit across the bottom from one side to the other, then filled the sand just to the top of the egg crate, then laid my rocks down, then added more sand on top that way you can't see the crate.

Oh ok. I get it now! I thought you were doing it for filtration or media purposes haha. That is a good idea. It's always best to prepare for the worst when youre putting together a nice set up.

new tanks are fun im ready for my big boy tank cough cough only being 17 is hard to say that. i cant wait to see some fish in that new tank man

Nothing wrong with sticking with whats familiar until youre fully prepared to try something different. As a side note, the most aggressive fish ive ever owned was my fryeri. But i do enjoy some of those rift valley setups, so much movement.

Okay, so today I decided the hell with the plastic black background and took the suggestions from here and went and bought some black flat black latex. Luckily after I removed everything from the back i had juuuuust enough room to slide the roller behind. Luckily it turned out great and the best part is no paint on the back wall! (Needless to say the wife was pleased at that!)
I decided to start putting stuff in. Here are the pics from the finished product of today. Any comments and criticism are welcome!

TOOK U THAT LONG TO SPEND MONEY ON FISH TANK HUG J /K NICE FIND

Okay, here's a question, my Wet/Dry setup is basically a dual overflow box, with flex tubing that runs down into the sump underneath, with a 1300GPH submersible pump pumping the water back up into the tank. I've been hearing people talk about needing a ball valve of some kind in the line in between the overflow and the sump to prevent flooding in the room. I've shut my pump off a few times, and yes the water in the pump goes up about an inch, but then stops way before getting close to the top once the tank level drops below the skimmer box line, and the tubes going from the skimmer box back to the overflow never lose their seal, and when I start the pump back up, it flows normally without needing to be re-primed. Am I missing something, or are the in-line valves needed for a different setup?
